Some of you may have noticed
By now
That my text tends to be weirdly spaced
So here we go with a few facts and
Explanations that may
Be of use

It's a form of Dyslexia
I cannot parse text properly
Blocks of text are especially difficult
I have to read then reread
Everything Multiple times
Even then I may miss out words or
Whole sentences
Or parts of peoples text

That answers the then how can you
Read our text and be able to
Reply or what ever some
Impolite person said earlier
To that effect
Because I read your text at least 5
Times or more before my
Brain puts some semblance of
Order to it
I even do it to what I typed myself

It's in my signature
Though I know not everyone can
See signatures
Hence this post to explain

If people make fun of it
In a humorous way then I don't
Mind in the slightest
@Usher
@dowie
You guys were hilarious
Rude or impolite is a different matter
And is just uncalled for

If it wasn't for spell check my posts
Would be an awful lot worse
Dyslexia is a far broader
Field than some realise it covers
More than just not spelling
Some words right

So no i am not using poetic prose
Nor am I writing limericks

I like to think I can help people
And make a contribution
To the forums
My weird spacing is just how i
Manage to cope it shouldnt
Make my contribution any less
Worth while because of it

This post is not only for me
There will be many other
Dyslexic people in
These forums whose Dyslexia may
Be less apparent than mine
Or who don't even like to
Admit they have Dyslexia
I hope this post helps them too

All that said
Thank you to those who have already shown understanding

And if any one thinks they can
Be more humorous
Than usher and dowie were
I can't wait to hear it :D:D:D:D

Edit
Usher and dowie rapped to guy nicking lead off my roof in the style of my
Text spacing I guess lol
Here's the raps

Man on de roof he nick your lead
he trip in de gutter an bang is head
when you tek a look you face turn red
de bloke on de floor is cold stone dead

2nd rap

.you post to Facebook so people can see him
they call him out, wouldn't wanna be him
he looks like he owns a corner sofa
when you catch him you'll kick him with your lofas

Cracked me up guys

I have no problems with it, plenty of odd ones on here though.

Mcnumpty sounds Scottish... are you sure you're not Angus Higgins reincarnated?

I also can't multi post on my
Phone lol
So here goes
Yes am Scottish lol
But definitely not Angus Higgins
Whoever he is/was lol
Too many lines for haiku I think
And not knocking any one
Who queries my text in a polite
Or humorous way
I know not everyone sees my sig
But a
Is there a reason for the weird
Spacing would be fine
Instead of something that may
Be hurtful
And probably noticed taking ages
To reply
That's down to having to reread
Everything a few times

One thing I've been curious about.

You said you have to structure your posts in short sentences in order for you to read/understand what it is that you are writing.

How do you get on with reading everyone else's posts, as unless they're a few words etc, there's likely to be a paragraph or more to read through.

Or is it just completely different reading something as opposed to you writing it?

Honestly, big respect to you pal.

This forum is a hard place to crack, many grammar Nazis and what not.

You have took some stick over the last month and took it on the chin.

I've been here 10 years now and only for the love of PC's. but there's plenty of people who will take every opportunity to mock you. I've done it myself on here and in real world but I feel that the mod's will happily take part or sit back and watch. It's like whoever has the best vocab wins the war...

But anyway....tis what it tis and life goes on. Some of the world's biggest brain boxes are dyslexic

I don't have a problem with it to read, it just takes a millisecond of adjustment. At least I always know that it is a post from you!

A pity that you felt the need to write this thread.
It was only partly a need to explain
Myself
And partly for others with dyslexia
Who unlike me may
Not feel able to just come out
And say they have it
Some people even in this
Day and age equate dyslexia
With stupidity
Which is of course wrong having it
Doesn't mean lack of intelligence
But some people still
See it as a stigma so keep
Quiet about having it
Need to do better than the bra joke lol
Wont trouble usher and dowies
Efforts with that one lol

I have to read
Then Reread
Then Reread several times more
Even the post you just did
Though wasn't conplicated
I guess my brain takes in
A different part each reread
Then assembles it
But yes sometimes it gets
Assembled wrongly
Or misses out bits altogether

I'm dyslexic, sometimes i think i'm writing a good sentence then re-read it and its shockingly poor! missed words, bad order etc its quite shocking sometimes!.

I've come to not really care to much about it on forums etc, at work it gets a bit more proof read. dont sweat it unless its important imo :)

Know exactly what you mean
Luckily spell check
Is a lifesaver
But yes I still Reread what I typed
Before posting it
And after posting
And edit if I have to as well

It's same with multi quotes
I can't manage it
On my phone which led
To a few cracks about trying to
Bump post count
But if mods merge my posts or
Dock my post count its fine
I really don't worry over my post
Count
It's going to increase just by using the
Forums I am not trying to
Inflate it by not multi quoting
Am sure the mods can see
Whether you are trying sneaky stuff
Any way lol
MM and free postage also have a waiting time as well
As a post count just for that reason

Do you know if the specific issue you have is at least fairly common in people with dyslexia?

If it is, I wonder if an automated aid is possible. Splitting text into smaller chunks should be possible when that text is digital, turning posts with normal sentence structure into something more readable to you, something like your own posts.

If I understand you correctly, the problem is essentially the number of words or characters in one piece of text. Your own posts don't have line breaks in any pattern that I can see.

If there are enough people with the same issue, maybe such a thing already exists or could be made.

As for your own posting style, it's a good compromise. You can write it, other people can read it. It's less readable to most people than normal sentence structure, but it is quite easily readable and will become more so over time as regulars here become used to it. More readable than posts in some places because your spelling and grammar are OK.

Angus Higgins was someone who posted here some years ago with a style of their own devising that used different shaped brackets in different ways and far, far more often than brackets are usually used in English. Nothing like your posting style except that it was also a bit odd.

Doesn't bother me for what it's worth.
I do read it like some kind of modern poetry though. :p

Being able to convey yourself well by writing is an amazing talent that I wish I was also better at.
