Phew! Very lucky, though I saw a guy use dental floss instead of blade which is a lot safer. The problem is he ended up cracking the core of his Opteron 165 with the water block he put on. Ouuchh.

The cache is on the CPU die. it would be impossible to remove without breaking it in half which would well and truly make it stop working.

hmmm that is very strange, I am now interested in actually knowing what the little chips do. Possible voltage resistors or regulators of some sort. Possibly even backups of something which would explain why it still works.
