Ok I'm about to purchase a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" to upgrade from a 15" generic dell screen and at the moment I have a shockingly poor 6200 Turbo Cache, If I use that with this screen it would just be chewed up and spit out.

I'm not up to date of the latest graphics cards so i need your help choosing a new one.

It Needs to:
- Be PCIe
- Play WoW at full resolution (yes I am a WoW geek  )
- Play C&C3 at full resolution

Budget of £300 max

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM

That one?

Thats over the budget a bit with the VAT. Anything that would do the job thats a little cheaper?

Yea you could get an 8800 gts 640mb but im not sure
it's going to be strong enough with everything maxed
in new games around the corner like crysis but it might be
it's certainly a belting card at those high resolutions it's certainly good enough for the games you mentioned now.

All the gts's are the same the oc ones are just overclocked bios's
so basically the non OC one can be clocked to 600+mhz with ease
and safely withut voiding warranty clocked my 8800 gts to 600/1700
and didn't get even 1 c rise in temperature check your email
you'd be mad to pass that up i can assure you.
+evga is 10 year guarantee which is more than enough.

Stretch to the 8800GTX mate, I think tbh that card was made for that monitor! ;) :p
I agree.....1920x1200 needs a 8800gtx

But games like WOW & C&C3 should be OK with a 8800gts 640mb...But what about any future games you may want to play ?

Yes but a big price difference between maybe 20 fps more?
can you live with 8x aa instead of 16x? and save £120+ quid?

8800 GTX won't run future games at that resolution so I would buy the cheapest card that runs those games and wait for better cards to show up.

But then you could wait for ever......

As there is always going be faster cards coming out and there is always going be more system demanding games coming out....

Well you certainly don't need a 8800GTX for them games.

I reckon that'd do them alright, might wanna stretch to the OCUK 8800GTS 320MB which is something like 180 though.

Future games? Like? I bet a tenner BioShock will. :o ;)

Also Gears was running at 1920x1080 super smooth at E3, of course that could have been on SLi but I reckon a GTX/Ultra could do it.

just get the 640mb and lower the res of the game to 1680x1050.

are you NUTS!?!?

the dell 2407 should never be abused in such a way! native res ALLWAYS :D :p

OP,
get either the OEM OCUK gtx, or the HD2900xt(512 or 1024 version)

tbh both are perfectly able to run that screen, with most games today at max with plenty of fps to spare, never really need more than 4x AA anyways at that kind of res either :)

and as mentioned x1950 Pro (or similar) would be a great stop-gap if u want to wait for 2-3 months for something bigger

was the GTS 640MB not sufficient for 1920 x 1200?
Sorry...I meant that gaming at 1680x1050 on a dell 24" was no problem..as i used to do it myself a lot...

I never tryed the 8800gts ...I went striaght from a x1900xt-x to a 8800gtx
