Need help wiring a cat6 network at home

The only time you need Crossover cable is when your going computer to computer - ethernet to ethernet.

Okay i dont know why you went to soild core instead of stranded, there is less attenuation loss on soild cable and good for straight runs.

I would check every bit along the way some connection must not be joining correctly.

Also maybe you need sockets that are designed for cat 6 solid type cable?

I know it says "How To Make a Crossover Cable" but pictures help, scroll down to the bottom of this link and see how this person put the connectors on.

@derbyjake: I'm in Kimberley, near IKEA

@Bin Boy: I have stranded CAT6 in the wall but that didn't seem to be working so I fetched some CAT6 solid to replace it.I haven't actually put the solid in the wall yet because it's a ballache to swap it over.

I'm going to try again tonight with the stranded and see if I can get any joy
