At school I've entered an activity called 'Young Scientists', where the objective is to set up a website that will contain scientific articles aimed at people around my age, i.e. 15-18. Now, I've made websites in html before but this site is slightly more ambitous than that and it's going to involve things such as having comments for each seperate article, probably a login box with profiles and linked forums, a page where the maintainers can add in articles, article submission systems etc. I realise that this means I may well have to learn php, so where would the best place be to start for a site such as the one I've just described?

    Thanks for your help!

Just install Wordpress (at least, that's the simplest route) :)

Alternatively, and this might be a long shot... but have a look at the punbb forums. You can use mods etc to do things like that and all the php is done for you. So, a very basic knowledge of php is all that is needed.

All the customizing is pretty much done in CSS.
