Need to reduce avi file to reasonable size

I have a 1.8GB AVI that I need to reduce down to ~700MB to fit on a CD. I've tried picking the lowest quality in Adobe Premiere and WME but neither seem to reduce the filesize much. Anyone know of some better encoding tools that are easy to use?

try using a program called VirtuaDub

Another option after you have encoded it to a Dvd is, to use DvdShrink or perhaps, Ashampoo movie shrink and burn. Unsure of the quality lost after such a large reduction though.

Hes not encoding it to a dvd.

Use virtual dub to reduce the bitrate.

tbh you'd have to use a lot of editing tools to reduce the video to
Logi baird quality and sound quality to ....mono....
well maybe not that bad, but you get my drift.
