New build for Flight Sim 2020

So my current build is nearing the end of its life - especially for the likes of games like FS20 with High settings.

I have a i5-3570k and a GTX 1660 (added 6 months ago). On a Z77 mb.

I am a bit tight with a budget - £1500. But might have to stretch to more.

Clearly if there are thoughts that I could get decent performance and spend less I would be delighted.

I would like to play at 1440p but don’t expect miracles. I will need a new monitor and this cost might mean me downgrading elsewhere.

I will keep my keyboard and mouse.
And already have 2 x 1TB Samsung Evo SSD’s.

ideally I would like a GTX 2070 SUPER. My weak area is choosing a CPU and Mobo. The later being to some degree future proof. I’m aware of the new 3000 GPU’s but not sure short term price affect they might have on the 2070.

I also want 32GB.

I am building this myself and have moderate confidence so could do with a case with some flexibility. I have space so it doesn’t need to be small.

As ever any help here would be much appreciated.

32GB is a must !

Intel wins due to only 4 cores / 8 threads being used (not the most eff way as well ) by DX11 Game .

VRam will be eaten up as well !

Shouldn't take to long for DX12 patch or updates to get more out of rig withs more cores.

If budget is including GPU, should be fine.

Need a damn good cooler.
Went for board with WiFi ?
4 yr warranty in GPU. But wait till 6/7pm tonight to see launch of RTX 30**

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,254.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Switching to Ryzen 3700x for £300 or 10700k £350 could save a little cash towards GPU etc ...

Ryzen 4-12 cores... Heck even Ryzen 3600/intel 10600k to land 10GB of RTX 3080 !

Great - thanks for this.

I also need to consider a new case and PSU. Currently have OLD:

CZ ZT 650W '80 Plus Bronze'
BitFenix Shinobi "Core" USB3.0 Gaming WindowedCase

I am a bit green in building from fresh so want space and of course air flow.

Regarding the 2070 you have suggested it sits around £70 or so above some other cards. What does the extra cost bring ?

I do need a cooler and will take WiFi in the MB just in case.

Thanks again.

A decent 650w like the Phantecs amp or corsair rm will cost you £99.

The Gigabyte 2070 above had 4 year warranty , rgb, 3 fan cooling which probsblly switch off at low load.

The MSI venutions 2070s is on offer £450

I think the 3*** will be too rich, so 2070 SUPER more likely.

So if I was pairing this with the i9-10850k you suggested would this PSU be ok (CZ ZT 650W '80 Plus Bronze').

Also could I reuse this case (BitFenix Shinobi "Core" USB3.0 Gaming WindowedCase) with this build, am conscious of the cooling as machine is not exactly out in the open.

Thanks

The CZ ZT 650W is not a bad unit, how old is it ? do you want to risk it with your new components?

If you happy with your case them keep it but i would get new one. Take a look see what you like and let us know.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cases-and-modding/pc-cases/midi-towers?sSort=3

Its around 8 years old, but if there's any doubt I will certainly change it.

So I see suggested here I should go for https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-amp-650w-80-plus-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-09q-pt.html or https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...lar-power-supply-cp-9020194-uk-ca-24r-cs.html

I might play safe as suggested and maybe up the power if I change to a 3*** card with a 750w PSU.

In terms of a case I want a midi ATX - so I presume the Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Elite AC (Socket LGA 1200) DDR4 ATX Motherboard work with this size ?

Any suggestion of a case to help make the build easier and cooling would be great.

hmm. Might just be tempted to see the launch and hang on a bit and see what happens. So did you change the MB from the Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Elite for case compatibility - thought they both fitted in a ATX midi.

Tks

Sorry, was already in my list (got build for my cousin's kid and needed to show her what's coming. Funny enough, same case - trade with BeQuiet so only £60 for me haha)

Case is lovely and has front USB C to go with the Z490 Elite etc . 3x 140mm fans. Although would love top to the front as intake for dual 140mm at the front .

Worth the wait to see the 3080.. good god the Strix card looks aweful ! Asus best design card was 980ti ... Loved the looks but new one.. my eyes !

Change it

If you want 750w this is a good option

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/supe...old-modular-power-supply-black-ca-061-sf.html

The atx z490 will be fine in a midi tower.

Do you like rgb lighting or a more modest case ?

Will you want a cpu cooler arctic e34 sport is a good cooler.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/bitfenix-nova-mesh-a-rgb-midi-tower-case-black-window-ca-23e-bx.html

Think £10 more lands Corsair with 10 yr warranty

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...lar-power-supply-cp-9020196-uk-ca-24t-cs.html

750w version for £109

So likely to go with the following:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,466.14 (includes shipping: £13.20)

Already have 2 x 1TB Samsung Evo SSD’s

Also seem ok, also need 1440p monitor and way over budget, ouch - have to share with the wife.
Have heard the Dell Dell S2721DGF mentioned as being good.

So any savings would be nice overall - but might have to bite the bullet.

Thanks
