the negatives are:
focus has seven or so steps, i.e. theres not a huge amount of fine control
gets the shakes on certain settings too easily
lens can get in the way of flash on macro shots
however overall its a very very good camera, see the dpreview.
for me, i chose it because it has the point and click, but i can if i want, purcahse additional lenses and it has almost all the manual overrides you need if you want to be more professional.
i was choosing between this and the casio eXLIm, i chose this because of the ability to become more professional, without spending the money on an dSLR before knowing i will do justice to the DSLR.
I knew the issues before i purchased, and i am happy to say i am very pleased with the results - see the pics i took in my own thread on the A620
