Right I might have to put the kids on 24 hr/ 7day week shifts for a month as the 7800GS is starting to look mighty tempting!
Glad to be here by the way! as all advice is helpful good or bad as I can weigh up differences. I have been posting on about 4 forums lol.
If I were to upgrade both memory and card which would I benefit from most as I cant afford to do both at once, say a nice 2 gig pair of corsair or a gfx card?

Graphics i would say.

You could do what "toucam" said which is wise considering youre aging system.
You could get the X800XL & with money saved get some extra ram as well.
On your system it may well be the best bet.

Ohhhhhhh the 7800 gs is out and ranges from £200-£240 and compared to the X850XT £200 I am leaning towards the 7800. decisions decisions?

Check the performance of the 7800GS first. You may be suprised.

7800GS = "It keeps up with the GeForce 6800 GT and even (not produced anymore) Ultra in most test." from http://www.guru3d.com

& "the X850 XTPE is generally faster than the new NVIDIA part" from http://www.anandtech.com

The 7800GS doesnt look that appealing really.

Go for the cheaper GFX card (XL or even XT) then buy more RAM, I think running Windows with less than 2GB of RAM should be made illegal in this country
