Indeed 220bhp, I do have a Best Motoring video from about 15 years ago where it kept up remarkably well with the R32 Skyline at Tsukuba, and in a drag race it comprehensively beat the more expensive 300ZX. I always liked them :)

There were actually four 400m runs against various cars, best was 13.705, worst was 14.985, probably the clutch getting tired! 1:09.75 For Tsukuba. They even stuck some off road tyres on it and did a muddy rally stage with it, seemed to have amazing traction off the line.

To be honest the gearset isnt that bad. It's the gearbox housing thats weak. They are looking at ways of having it strengthed right now on the owners club because it's usually what lets go first when going for big power. They are discussing having the casings frozen and stuff...

Morba: I know mate. There's a friend on the owners club entitled 'Misuse of R parts' and theres a big gallery of jokers who thought the cheese grater might look good on their corsa, argh!

McHammer: Yeah totally, would be fine off the line, not so sure round the corners though :)

Bear: I'd own either cars. Love them both!

Geiger: No it feels fine at that speed, although I cannot claim to have taken a corner
at that speed.

Energy: I have that video somewhere!

IIRC I think someone on the sxoc has tried shot peening and cryoing (is that a word?) gearbox parts and it didnt seem to work. One of the cheaper options is to get the OS Giken 3 gear set with uprated main shaft but its still not cheap about £750 from the States for the 200, dont know the prices for the GTiR though.

Well, looking at those pics has caused me no end of problems.

I'm going to have to get another one now :( don'y want to sell my Impreza but it would be a shame not to get another R. Even if it were just for GF as her daily (she doesn't go too far and I've taught her through patience and threats of extreme violence ;) how to treat a car with mechanical sympathy in mind).

Cracking pics mate. :)

Looks truly stunning mate :)

Makes my SR look like a lawnmower :p

I love my SR, as it's quick, looks damn fine in turquoise (not the yuky one, more metallic green, and has never EVER (touch wood) broken down. And its sitting around collecting dust as im not sure when il insure and tax it again, as i made need another shoulder op :(

I'm seriously looking at a supra, or R33 gtr when im 25, and running my little SR until then, but i think a nice (unmodified) GTI-R could well be on my list now. But if i ever get one, id love to take the spoiler off, remove the bonnet vent, and get some 1.4 badges put on it :p :p

Damn the sunny for being soo alluring.

In a brutally ugly and purposeful sense. And I mean that in the best possible way. Just how I like 'em.
the GTiR is a good example of the "come and have a go if you think your hard enough" type of design.
a real performance bargain too as almost everyone in the price bracket wants Evo's or Scoobs.
considering the UK cars were almost exactly the same price as an Escort Cosworth, you can see how much desireability has affected resale values.

@the OP...very nice example.....how's the umbrella doing by the way? lol
