new sata hdd

just gone to put in a new sata hdd and i have the connection on my motherboard the options on my drivers and info on start up screen but i have no sata/1 sata2 dma interface on my bios
tried to update my bios but it says it is newesr version ???
any help appreciated

sata 250gb hdd 16meg cache<<<<<

Does it start up fine and can you use the drive still?
