Night out in Southampton

Hi all.

I'm responsible for sorting a stag do in Southampton in July (as we're watching the cricket there the day after).

I've not been out there before so just looking on some good recommendations on places to go? We'll be about 20 lads and likely based in the city centre, so looking for somewhere fairly central if possible.

The groom likes his indie nights so if there's any good clubs for that, that might be appreciated. Else we just need somewhere that plays regular cheese/pop stuff that won't baulk at a stag party.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Well being from Southampton and knowing the place well,, you've got a few options.

Ill draw you a quick map that will help with my explanation :D

Now with those tekkers out the way let me explain..

Starting at A and the 'bottom end' of town (High st) you've got a few small bars/pubs and a couple cheeky indian restaurants such as Standing Order, Oasis Bar, Coriander Lounge. I'd personally suggest starting here providing your here early/late afternoon time.

From here at about 9-10ish I'd recommend going up the top end of town towards B/C (London Road) towards the club scene. This is a good 15-20 minute sober walk so consider a taxi here. Also, avoid X (Above Bar) unless you like a side helping of chav thrown in your night.. if walking you'll go past Spinkles Gelato and be appealed by what looks like a couple decent clubs just been renamed and cant remember what they're called but just keep walking!! Once you reach B/C, you want to bounce between a few clubs that are all in a small vicinity of each other such as Junk, Orange Rooms, Varsity, Level One, Ninety Degrees, Vodka Revolutions etc etc.. you've plenty to pick from.

Now here you've got a choice.. If your night is going good or even frankly average and everyone is happy, stay here. If all has hit the fan and everyone is hating it, jump everyone in a taxi and direct him toward Oceana (D). I always make this the last ditch effort, mainly because your'll generally have a pretty rubbish DJ with a frankly average crowd and extortionate prices to get in and behind the bar, and once you're there you kind of stuck without coming back on yourself.. but if you can get over that, then its alright. However, just outside around the corner you have got Grosvenor Casino which is pretty good to end the night on and empty the wallets.

Also, on the stag do front.. strip clubs are located at A and D :D

Can't say I'd be too happy if it was my stag do and ended up in Oceana heh :|

I went to uni there, so know every bar like the back of my hand.

I can tell you now, you will struggle to get in anywhere unless you split up and time your entrances.
There is only one good place anyway. Orange rooms..
If your black go to Junk.
If you want herpes go to Kellys
If you like your drugs go to Rhino
If your a pedo, go to Cafe Parfait

The best club for indie is Unit, and it would be my choice.
Your best bet would be Oceania in that size of group, although it's full of chavs and skanks.

Can't say id argue with any of that.

Is Rhino still there or has that been renamed? Small venue but used to get some big name DJs.
