Happens with or without a gpu overclock, CPU is just PBO and RAM is 3600MHz. Strangely it happens in RDR2 as well. Didn't used to happen I wonder if it's anything to do with the recent windows updates, got a couple the other day...
Just happened again after I completed a mission

So I'm new to the SC party and I'm trying really hard to like it.. but in return it is a very trying experience so far!

Reckon I've clocked around 20-25 hours so far and have achieved.. well, sod all really. Managed to get to the heady heights of 70000 credits but if all of the missions that I took had worked/not suffered disconnects/had no CTD's/done what they said on the tin then I should be lookng at about three times that amount by now.

Don't get me wrong there have been some enjoyable elements and it certainly delivers on a good range of "wow" moments, but I swear the streamers/tubers that I've been watching are playing a different version to me!

I'll keep plugging away at it for now but am seriously considering a refund at this point. It should be renamed "Elevator Simulator" as that is where I have spent most of my time so far, travelling up and down in the damn things after every disconnect/weird unexplained death and other assorted bugs.

An evening's play can be mapped roughly as: load game, get in elevator, accept several missions, claim ship (due to last night's dc that meant I respawned back at home plate but my ship is left in the ar5e end of nowhere), leave pretty spaceport, press B about 5 times to get QT to work, arrive at mission location, get DC'd. Start repeating process, enter ship having endured another trip in the elevator, seemingly receive some kind of fatal bleed injury entering ship, die, respawn. Start process again, get all the way through it and actually complete a mission and receive a pocket bursting 4k credits. Think "now I'm getting somewhere" and go through the process again only to get a CTD. Think "just one more for tonight" get logged back in respawn and ... no missions available. Well £$%^ that, logoff park it for tomorrow!

Yes, I know, I know, it's an alpha (barely) but it should be better than this by now. At this stage I can't get deep enough into anything to actually feel like I'm testing it. And yet strangely, I want to log back on and give it another go!

Note: this is not me slagging the game off - I was well aware of what I was getting in to. This is mainly a therapeutic rant but also a warning to anyone who, like me, has been watching the multitude of recent videos of ED players swapping to SC and thinking that it sounds like a good idea. On paper it is, in practice it can test your patience to the extreme. It can be pretty though...

No mate your not slagging it off, You have at least given in a good go vs most here who **** off the game and never/hardly played it.

Some tips:

Bounties pay a lot more, its the meta right now so do some of those to get more money.

Create a spawn point in a space station by either landing there or hailing a call to land there, Its quicker to spawn and get out of your hab and into your ship quicker then doing it in a major landing zone where you have to walk to the train to take a ride to spaceport.

Thanks for the tips. I had seen about setting a respawn point at a space station and got that sorted the other night, definitely makes things easier. Still a lot of elevator travel though! :D

I did dabble in some bounties last night and will continue to do so as quite enjoyed them.

On the whole I am enjoying the experience and will persevere with it as there's still loads for me to discover and try out. Some of the bugs are genuinely funny too

Cheers.

Completely understand that frustration. Different patches and different people seem to have such varied performance. I haven't actually had a CTD whilst playing in about 60 hours over the last 3 patches. Plenty of desync in group in 3.13 but yeah. When the performance is there which all depends on how you find it running for yourself it really does shine as great game to play especially in group.

We have generally found solid internet, M.2 drives and RAM are the biggest help in performance. For most part am getting around 60fps then although last play session was only 40fps but still not awful and felt fine.

The Search and Destroy space mission where you have to scan for three satellites and destroy them within 5 mins is a good payer and easy to complete, just scan for them all first and then shoot them out space once done. That like 20k credits there last time I done it.

I think right now it is having a rough time because half way through some major tech updates. 3.12 seemed to me to be generally more stable or even the earlier 3.13. I think once 3.14 got to live and they can sort out desync then it should be a reasonably solid build otherwise so may be worth waiting a few weeks for that to drop.

Managed to make some reasonable progress tonight - got a couple of the missions that you mention done ok. Got lucky with the first one though as the timer never appeared which was fortunate as I had a hard time finding the last monitor. On that subject, if you scan for all three before shooting any of them how do you find them again when you're ready to start destroying them? In the second one of these missions, by the time I had found the third one, the first one was gone from view and radar so I had to try and remember roughly what orientation I had been in before I could find it again. I keep my route destination set as the com array so at least I can head around that area for scans again.

It was all rosey up to that point. Then the other two missions (of the same type) that I had accepted promptly disappeared from the list so I couldn't actually do them.

I didn't get any crashes either, well apart from the one where I hit a rather large ship on a bounty run! :D

I'm finding performance pretty good too - running on a 5800x with 32GB of fast RAM and an M.2 drive. While I never monitor FPS counts I reckon I'm consistently around 50-60 with dips to around 40 in some of the space stations which feels fine.

Thanks for all the help guys, appreciated.

If you scan for them and then get close enough it should then lock target if I remember right so then it should then provide an arrow on the HUD to that location regardless of distance but it has been a little while since doing one so I might be miss-remembering.

The missions can be complete by anyone so could have been completed by others as well as a heads up. They are not personal missions and that may well be why they disappeared. Although you can check mission log I think to see those sorts of details in the mobiglass app.

Haha, that sounds good. Yeah outer space is pretty solid 60fps for me. Just when on planet in a city which was my last 12 hour session recorded showing it to be more like 40fps at moment although was smooth with small frame timings. Am pleased to hear overall though the session went much better and hopefully it has given a little more of a glimpse into the PU. If you ever want to see other ships, try other missions or that then just chat in the game chat and there is generally someone on willing to fly too and meet up to do things and show a bit more of the game off even if you generally prefer single player experience. Things like learning mining and that are good with people.

Also ask about Benny Henge. It nothing mission related but can make for some fun travel and location to randomly see in the verse.

That started taking longer and longer, as you're waiting for the janky servers to spawn them, same as with the Claimjumper sentries.
I also found an issue wherein every now and then some NPC **** from the Advocacy shows up and starts shooting my satellites before I've finished scanning for them all!!

Thanks again for the help. As I get more into it I'll definitely be asking stuff in chat - I've found the community around this game to be very welcoming and helpful so far.

Cheers.

Right, I've sorted my crashes to desktop, my RAM apparently doesn't like 3600MHz anymore:mad:

Anyway, Now for the first time since 2014 I'm actually getting into this game and have some annoying questions for the brains in here.

1. I have the Aegis Avenger Stalker, any recommendations for my next ship? Can I upgrade it?

2. Can you buy ships in game and where?

3. Is there a list somewhere of broken missions as I've found one already

4. Where the hell do I get armour?

5. Does every ship have the ability to scan and mine?

6. Anything I definitely should or shouldn't do?

7. EDIT :Just spawned and for the second time I've spawned floating next to my ship after logging off in bed, how can I avoid that?

Cheers dudes and dudettes

For ship choices, very much depends on what you want to do. You can upgrade outside of the game with real money, or buy new ships ingame with ingame credits. Personally, I'd lean towards doing the latter unless you are absolutely set on something. Erkul will give details on ship specs and where you can buy them ingame if available. https://www.erkul.games/

Armour is available in shops in various landing zones. Likewise hand held weapons and alternative components for your ships.

Scanning is something all ships can do, I believe. But mining is specialist - you need a mining ship.

As for what to do and avoid. I'd probably try most things to some level. I enjoy doing NPC bounty hunting, can make decent money and I enjoy shooting things :D Currently the ground on-foot missions aren't especially rewarding due to various bugs so I'd not spend too much time with those after a first try. I'd recommend flying around to visit the various planets and moons to have a look around and take in the scenery, I'd recommend avoiding spending lots of time grinding to make money as it'll soon become unfun and burn you out.

And for the bed log out... I've got a hunch that's a known bug.

Depends what you would like to do next? Mining? save up and get a prospector. Multi crew 2 player bounty and cargo runs? Cutty black or a freelancer max.

2. Can you buy ships in game and where?
Yes you can buy almost all the ships in game at various locations. Mainly in the main landing zones such as lorville New Deal (right next to space port, near the terminals where you summon your ship)

3. Is there a list somewhere of broken missions as I've found one already
Not that i know of. Most of the breaking missions are down to servers really. One mission i know is broken but mightj be fixed now is the Miles erkun mission i think its called? Basically a guy that hires you as a bounty and it uses the new rep system to track your progress and gets harder and harder to do.

4. Where the hell do I get armour?
Easiest place? Port Oliser, You cant miss it. I seriously think CIG should spawn new players in PO as its the best starter area.

5. Does every ship have the ability to scan and mine?
Every ship can scan but only the Mole, prospector, Roc, Roc DS can mine as well a tractor beam mining tool you can do hand mining

6. Anything I definitely should or shouldn't do?
Dont buy any ships from the pledge store! Buy all your ships in game, try them out and if you really enjoy this game and the product and the ship you got, you can always then buy it from the pledge store because come launch day,. anyting you earned in game will get wiped(its as expected) but pledged ships are yours forever.

Dont log off in your bed, there is a few bugs with it.

Dont invest and do cargo runs for two reasons:

1. server disconnects aka 30k means that if you invested loads on cargo and the server dies, you lose your investment .
2. Not much profit to be had right now as its a bit broken the price and demand.

What should you do?

Do some bounties.
Do some of the investigaton and search missions
Do the boring box delivery missions. why? because that takes you to a good few cool places(basicaly touring stanton )
Do some Mining either with the ROC vehicle or ship mining.
Do some FPS cave and bunker missions.
Lastly, check out a mission called "URGENT, Boarding action in Progress" i wont spoil you the details on what mission that is but it pops up once in a while.

7. EDIT :Just spawned and for the second time I've spawned floating next to my ship after logging off in bed, how can I avoid that?

As mentioned on point 6, dont log off in your ships bed. There is some bugs around this at the moment.

There is a severe bug with it where you no longer can enter the PU lol and have to change your characters gender, join another region server, or do a character reset from the RSI website.

What a char reset? Well it basically resets your character but it will persist the money you earned, your weapons you bought(but not the ammo) , your armour and any ships you own.

Earn enough to rent a Greycat Roc, and the Nomad is a good combo, mine enough in an hour or 2 to buy the Greycat Roc after the rental period. Rinse and repeat to get the Nomad, then you have cargo & mining options to generate decent amounts for reasonably relaxing gameplay (apart from server desynch blowing up your rocks).
I usually prefer Ariel for a decent amount of Hadanite to mine as a full Roc load of that pretty much pays the bills for a month rental on something much larger if you want to go that route.

Advice taken :p

If I buy a new engine or shield etc for my stalker, is that always there when I respawn?
