Has anyone else noticed when playing older games the amusing auto-detect settings?

for example I've just re-installed Deus Ex and it's auto detect the settings as medium detail player skins and standard (640x480) video res!!

    I have a barton 3200+, 1 Gig Ram, Geforce 7800 GS btw!! :D

Well, older games aren't programmed to recognise newer cards, so the settings are just set to medium, standard :)

I rarely bother with autodetect settings anyway, I tend to setup what I think would be reasonable, and then adjust it up or down depending on what the framerate is.

For example things like shadows tend to cause big slowdowns in most games so I tend to have them set to "low" or whatever unless I find that I have plenty of frames to burn.
