After reading a thread in GD (LINK) about giving up booze and a few others posting about considering the same. It wasn't long before the penny dropped, why not do the same and maybe offer some encouragement and support to others.

Well you know me folks, not one to shy away so where better to have it than in 'La Cuisine' :)

Anyone that is serious about quitting or even reducing their intake, get your name down in here!

The Cosimo Bar

You are forgiven my son....

For your penance you are to have two Hail Maries tonight:

3 1/2 ounces tomato juice
1 dash of Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco Pepper Sauce
A Lime slice or celery stalks

Now go in peace. :)

To celebrate Stopober we'll celebrate with a cocktail tonight.

So a nice and easy to prepare Atomic Cat:

4 parts orange juice
4 parts tonic water
Ice cubes
1 highball glass

Pour the orange juice and tonic water into a highball glass filled with ice cubes.
Stir well.

Cheers :)

Another cocktail to try, Regal Refresher:

25ml Bottlegreen Ginger & Lemongrass cordial
5 slices of fresh cucumber
Top with Highland Spring sparkling water

Place cucumber slices throughout cubed ice in tall glass, add remaining ingredients, swizzle, and add a sprig of fresh mint to garnish.

Cheers :)

Today's cocktail, Nojito:

1 oz Lime Juice
4 oz Club soda
6 Mint Leaves
2 tsps Brown Sugar

Add the lime juice, brown sugar and mint leaves in a Highball glass.
Bruise a few mint leaves using a spoon so that their juice can get out.
Let this mix rest for a few hours for best results.
Fill the glass with ice and stir.
Top with Club Soda (or Sprite).
Add a twig of mint for decoration.

Cheers :)

Time for a simple one, an Arnold Palmer:

3 oz lemonade
3 oz iced tea

Pour equal amounts of lemonade and iced tea into a tall lass filled with ice.
Stir well

Cheers :)

Something refreshing, Tropical Delight :

2 oz coconut milk
3 oz pineapple juice
3 oz mango juice
1 small banana

Peel the banana and place in a blender with the juice and coconut milk.
Add in some ice and blend for 10 seconds.
Pour in a large glass and serve with a straw with a garnish of sliced pineapple on the rim

Cheers :)

Something to get rid of those Monday Blues: Cranberry Quencher

1 part cranberry juice
1 part orange juice
2 parts lemonade

Fill a highball glass with ice. Pour in the cranberry and orange juice. Stir well. Top up with lemonade.

Cheers :)

Don't give in now when you know that you can have some Safe Sex:

1 part peach juice
3 parts pineapple juice
3 parts orange juice
A squeeze of lime juice

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add the ingredients and shake well.
Strain into an ice filled highball glass.
Garnish with a slice of lime.

Cheers :)

Pat yourself on the back and celebrate with a Toothless Shark:

1 part lime juice
1 part grenadine
6 parts orange juice

Three-quarter fill a highball glass with orange juice. Add the lime juice and stir well. Slowly pour in the grenadine. Do not stir.

Cheers :)

You've all got ginger beer so try an Orange Spice:

1 part orange juice
1 part ginger beer
orange slice

Fill a highball glass with ice cubes. Half fill with orange juice and top up with ginger ale. Stir gently. Garnish with a slice of orange.

Cheers :)

We'll keep it simple, so a St. Clements:

1 part bitter lemon
Orange/Lemon slice(s)

Stir equal parts of orange juice and bitter lemon with plenty of ice. Serve garnished with slices of orange and lemon.

Cheers :)

I'm up for reducing intake and just maybe being a bit more selective, think it may come with age and also a 3 and 5 year old jumping up and down on your bed at 7am Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend I had a couple but had zero hangovers, I got more done and spent more time with my kids.

How about a La Cuisine Stoptober then start BOTW III 2nd November?

Anything that means consuming less is a good thing :) Stopping for some is borderline vital.

Nice to have you onboard matey (no mutiny this time though :p)

Yes BOTW Mk.3 will now be after October, I'm not turning my back on anybody :)

I'm 2 and a half weeks dry and don't plan on drinking again, but I'll happily join in. I think this is a great idea

Im in, plan to stay off it completely in October, November and December.

October I will go dry the whole month. I'm in.

Nice one guys :)

I suggest we all make an effort to post in here what we are having instead, even if it's as bland as coffee or water? How often, how much and make sure we all shout out when feeling low or not as strong as other times!

Support one, support all!

I'd happily give up the booze. Rarely drink any alcohol. As long as you don't count Champagne. As I'm not giving that up... bit other than that, I'm in! Used to at least share a bottle a night of wine with the Mrs, sometimes a bottle each (I say each, I'd probably drink the most) but stopped midweek drinking and felt much better for it.

I've had an alcohol problem for a little over 10 years now. It started with beer/lager then moved onto wine and for the last few years has been spirits.

I'm having a drink as I write this.

A thread like this used to be something I'd ignore, but I've been giving serious thought to quitting the drink for about 18 months now. I've even been to NECA, but after 3 appointments I backed out.

I'll sign up for this. Let me on your wagon !

So you're not giving up booze then

Good luck to everybody who is making the break, I hope all goes well for you :)
