Hi guys,

I'm wondering if I'd see much performance increase by overclocking my CPU/RAM/GFX and if so, where I'd be best starting.

General use is gaming (DOTA2 and Modern Warfare - currently at 1080p soon to be 1440p). Build is as follows:

MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
R5 3600x
Arctic Freezer 34 e-sports duo
Patriot Viper steel series 4000mhz (B-die I believe), 2 XMP profiles available 4000Mhz@19-19-19-39 OR 3866Mhz@18-22-22-40.
Gigabyte 5700 Gaming OC
Sabrent 1Tb NVME

Case is Corsair Carbide 275r so I have a moderate airflow.

What would people recommend please? From my limited knowledge I was thinking of down clocking the RAM to 3866mhz (due to max 1:1 infinity fabric multiplier?) and tightening the timings?

Any advise would be much appreciated!

Thanks

You ideally want ram set between 3600 to 3800 with 16 16 16 32 or something similar, infinity fabric needs to be set to half your ram speed so 1800 for 3600 ram 1900 for 3800 etc, infinity fabric might not be able to hit 1900 so your best testing that first by lowering ram speed right down then see what IF you can get stable with prime or aida 64 then once you know what is achievable bring your ram up to 1-1. would recomend you try the ryzen d-ram calculator to help with finding timings and voltages.

with the cpu you 3 options, either leave at stock, set pbo or set a manual overclock while keeping vcore @1.325 or lower.

You can overclock the gpu with software like msi afterburner by upping the core and memory clock till it crashes then lowering a few notches, undervolting the card can also help as it lowers temps which can give a higher boost clock.

you can test gpu performace with 3D mark, cpu performance with cinebench r15 or 20 and ram performance with aida 64 as this helps to show you how the changes you're making effect the performance.
