pci slot shorting

i have an msi kn8 sli board with the first pci slot damaged it seems to be shorting and the pc powers up but will not even boot to the bios..
if i place the graphics card in the second slot the pc boots up ok and i get the single bios beep fine..
my question is ? will i be able to get the card to work on the second pci slot or am i out of luck

The card will work fine in the second pcie slot.

Get a strong light into the case and look into the slot. Maybe there is something stuck in there causing the short?

thanks for the replys the second pci slot worked fine but still had problems with the monitor shuting down...
the graphics card is a 6800 gt and the monitor is a crt so i managed to get hold of a lcd monitor and it worked fine :confused:

in the end as well as the first pci slot not working also the d/sub to dvi adaptor was knackered took some working out but got it in the end..
