I've been thinking of getting a p2 955 for my new build and mildly overclocking it to match a 965, now if I got a 945 phenom how easy would it be to get it up to say 3.4 to 3.6 ? Already got a artic cooling freezer 7 pro for the build, or is the 955 a much better CPU over the 945 ?
The 945 isn't a better chip... it's just so expensive because they can't make a profit, but at that price they can't shift them anyway.
The only reason I'm asking is a comptitors site has got the 945 for £123 delivered while the 955 is £136 delivered today only sort of prices just wondering if the 955 is worth the extra money if I'm only going to be overclocking to a phenom 965 speeds
I think with the right cooling you " should " be able to gain 400mhz over clock from the 945. I am not really that familiar with the new AMD phenoms to be honest. Is this the 95w version or the 125w version of the 945. ? If its the 95w version i would go for this and put the money you saved towards a high end cooler. With this said the 955 is the much better chip. Should hit 3.6 - 3.8ghz stable. McT
