im considering a new gaming pc as my old graphics card has died and as i will probably end up spending 1k on a new card i may as well update whole system.

I built my last pc about 5 or 6 years ago so I am so out of the loop with whats good or not right now. Any advice for what to go for or not? I have always previously run intel but im open to change if AMD better.

I’d look at something like this, you can chop and change a few bits as need like up ram to 32gb etc, already changed the cpu to an 8 core as while 6 is ok currently 8 will add some longevity.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
  • 1 x OcUK Gaming Rapier - AMD Ryzen 5600X, GeForce RTX 3070Ti Gaming PC = £1,689.01
    • Security Software:Unwanted
    • Operating System:Unwanted
    • Case:*Build Stock* Phanteks Eclipse P400 Air Midi Tower DRGB Case - Black
    • Processor:*Build Stock* AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core 4.7GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Tray
    • 2.5" SATA Solid State Drive 1:Unwanted
    • Storage Drive:Unwanted
    • Memory:Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey
    • 2.5" SATA Solid State Drive 2:Unwanted
    • M.2 Solid State Drive 1 (Primary Drive if Selected):WD Blue SN550 1TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS100T2B0C)
Total: £1,703.11 (includes shipping: £14.10)

As everyone says, need GPU 1st if going for a build. Only way of getting a gpu at lowest price is to try and pick up an FE card. you need to be on telegram and look up FE PartAlert. Suggest you set up an a/c 1st, then it's luck whether you see alert. no set time and when they do appear, they go out of stock within a min.(3060ti £369, 3070 £469, 3070ti £529, 3080 £649, 3080ti £1049, 3090 £1399)

Are the pre built systems likely to drop in price eventually with the gpus?
They'll have to if they want to sell them. There's a limit to how much more people will spend on getting someone to build it for them. Also as gpu prices come down and availability increases, those that bought the prebuilds to strip them out to get the gpu wont be there supporting the prebuild mkt also.

I was in the same situation so I paid £16 for an 11 year old GPU as a temporary solution. I'm having so much fun playing less demanding games. There's no "dilemma". I'll get a modern GPU next year or the year after when prices drop.

Sounds grim… is that likely? What’s usual life span for a psu? I thought it was about ten years?
The Superflower is a quality unit so should be fine but say something happens and have to return the pc , do you change back yo the original psu before shipping.

Personally i would upgrade the psu probablly cost you an extra £50 and potentionally a lot of hassle.
