By "unofficial Intel road map" I had in mind http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/pcw/docs/302/074/html/kaigai6.jpg.html, on which Q8400, Q9400, Q9505, Q9550, Q9650, Q8400s, Q9505s and Q9550s were all surviving in 2010/Q1.

Hmm I just checked all the way back to the July roadmap and even that only shows Q9505 & Q8400 in Q1 2010 so its seems this was the plan for a while.
I guess that now is the time to buy a Q9550, if one wants a new one with a 3-year warranty. I was hoping that the prices would fall a bit further before buying one myself, but this is obviously not going to happen.

Tbh, I wish i'd gone for a cheaper 9xxx and just overclocked it, as the cache increase doesn't make that much of a difference (none perhaps for what i use it for)
My friends oc'd Q9400 is not shabby performance, and could probably be got for £cheap second hand.
