    What are these white slider things trackside at stations?

    I've wondered for years.

    The slidy things are rails mate, the trains run on them.

    They are datum plates.

    To give info on cant of running rails, the up or down lines, design levels.

    Sometimes they even run on them according to a timetable. Apart from when you really need to get to somewhere on time.

    They are volume controls. They turn up and down the choo choo noises of the choo choos.
