Quick X2 Question

    At standard speeds which of these is the better CPU for general use. ie a bit of everything?

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+
    AMD Opteron UP 165 Dual Core

    The X2 4200+ will be faster than the Opteron 165 at stock.

    The X2 4200+ has a 400MHz clock speed advantage per core. The Opteron does have double the cache, but this only equates to about 200MHz at best.

    If you're planning to leave it at stock go for the X2 4200+. I'd also consider the X2 3800+ as it's only 200MHz slower but a fair bit cheaper
