OK me and my mates are joining up to do the scumrun next year, with the car costing 500 quid. What's the most reliable and quickest car could we get for 500 smackers??

I bought my 190e 2.6 for £460. It has crap bodywork but is mechanically decent. I use it as a daily. Its not slow, and they are known for being extremely reliable.
When dealing with cars in the £500 price bracket it's almost impossible to recommend any specific car. Only 2 things matter with £500 cars: Does it run? Is it legal? If you can answer yes to both of those 2, then you can start inspecting thing like bodywork and mechancal condition. I'm sure there are some quick ish luxo barges out there for £500 to buy but you're never going to find one that costs less than £2000/year on maintenance.
AAARGH I'm jealous, 555 quid? They're 3-4k here . And I really fancied one as a first car. Even with all the scratches, welding and rust, for 555 quid I'd easily buy 2...
Toyota Supra? Most likely not reliable but it'll be fast EDIT: Saying that, can't find any for that price... Used to be some around that, sure of it.
This, or a Rover 623i with the Honda engine/box. Quick for what it is, about 170bhp and reliable. Just poo on fuel
