On the estate I lived on up North there was a bloke who went round on Thursdays - not sure what he was shouting but I assumed he was the 'rag and bone' man.

Being old, I do actually remember when they had horses and carts - was obsessed with horses when I was little so used to wait for them coming when I was staying at the grandparents. Grandad said they used to give people goldfish in exchange for scrap!!

I had never noticed a rag and bone man in my area but within about an hour of putting an old fridge and some scrap metal outside my house (ready to take to the dump) a rag and bone man asked if he could have them - i think they take a more subtle approach these days.

Weve got a guy doing it in my area, always comes quite early, has a bugle his kid cant really play while he shouts "Any old iron?!" over and over. If I did have any old iron id likely use it to smash his bloody bugle to bits.
