Raid Controller needed?

I want to set up a RAID 10 for all my data or a RAID 0+1? Two questions do I need a separate RAID controller and if so which one?

Haven't brought a MotherBoard yet, but I was reading article in early 2010 saying Motherboards don't have good raid controllers?

Unless you want to guarantee being able to move the array to another machine then a motherboard controller will be fine for RAID10. It's only when you need parity based RAID (3,5,6 etc) that dedicated controller cards are necessary.
