hiya,
pc crashed today using lightroom 4, thought it was program restarted and was greeted by a continuous beep beep beep.

tried another graphics card in as had no display, switched back older card and still the same.

took out 1 stick of ram and it posted n started up windows all was fine powered down put the stick back in and had no problems.

ran sandra and had a continuous croaky sounding buzz as soon as program started

so took the stick out and all seems fine..

thought it was cpu temp or fan fail first so did the usual core temp cpu id etc

so seems as i got a dead stick or is there anything else it could be.

thx for any help

It sounds like memory to me too, even though the symptoms can be puzzling. My PC failed to start at the weekend, and would just give BIOS beeps indicating a CPU failure, apparently. A CMOS reset got me to a BSOD starting Windows, which just confused me even more, so I booted off a Memtest flashdrive and voila, memory failure.

Losing the duff stick got me a perfectly normal PC again. I guess it all depends where the failure occurs as to how and when the problem reveals itself.
