Hi everyone,
Great to see there is an active forum here!

ok,, my son brought a gaming system from overclockers and he would be the first to admit he doesn't know much about computers. So I said I would have a look.

I didn't know what he had brought but I said I would take away the tower box as I could use my monitor etc to get it up and running.

Very well packaged. Then I saw the motherboard box and thought eek I'll have to build it! but no, just a box with the left over bits and docs. Great!

Opened up the tower and removed the travel packaging.

Thought there was no hard drive but then saw the slim 1TB Vulcan SSD, Nice.

Ram in already, 16GB

CPU installed I guessed as looking at the Sheet I saw an AMD Ryzen 7

So far everything looks good. Now I wanted to see if there was an operating system on it.

I did ask my son to send me a link of what he brought but it didn't work due to customisation so I was going by the Quality Control Sheet.

I disconnected my own computers power lead and DVI lead and plugged these in to the new PC along with keyboard and mouse.

All looking good. Case all secure. Leads good. Power on.

I was surprised by the red glow from the fan! I'm a bit old skool lol

Here is where I need help please.

Nothing showed up on the monitor. No beeps. Just the fans running quietly.

Checked the leads all ok at both ends of monitor. all ok.

Unplugged everything and plugged my own pc back in and turned on. ALL OK.

I'm hoping it's something simple I've forgotten or a simple fix!

Any ideas please.

At the least I thought I would see a post screen or hear some unhappy beeps.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte B450M.

I'm not a computer expert but I know the basics.

Cheers!

Hi guys, Thanks for replies.
There isn't a separate graphics card as I know he wanted to wait until September before he brought one.
I plugged into the DVI port on the motherboard and didn't touch the HDMI port.

Any other ideas would be appreciated....

As per @Mcnumpty2323 it sounds like he's running without a GPU.

Only "G" model Ryzen's have built in graphics, chances are he has something like a 3600-3700X which doesn't.

Do you think you could take the GPU (assuming you have one) from your system to try in his?

It's very easy to do and would let you know if everything is working alright for his system.

It's a shame he didn't post on here first for some advice.

Thanks again.

I think I have a spare basic graphics card I can test.

Just confused.

I looked on the Gigabyte website info for the motherboard B450M DS3H
and it has info about onboard graphics
https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-10/sp#sp

Integrated Graphics Processor:
  1. 1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60 Hz
    * The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter.
  2. 1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096x2160@60 Hz(Note)
    * Support for HDMI 2.0 version and HDCP 2.2.(Note)

Guess the bit below is relevant
(Note) Actual support may vary by CPU.
So am assuming it doesn't mean graphics are integrated into the motherboard
But means if you use a cpu with integrated graphics those ports will work
If I am wrong no doubt someone will correct me
Never used a B450 board so it's an assumption on my part

Hi All,

Just did a bit more research and the CPU doesn't have integrated graphics and I think I get it now.

Lucky for my son I have a basic graphics card until he gets a super duper one lol

Thanks all.
