Recommend me a video editing tutorial

The video tutorials I've seen (e.g. Openshot) seem to start with you having a set of clips you want to string together. Are there any that work the other way around? That is, they start with you having a video file - be it 5 mins dashcam footage or 3 hours of Microsoft Video Recorder footage - and teach you how to cut it into useful segments and put those together?

theres some good ones over on youtube, loads of free software too, i live davinchi resolve. Easy to use and cut things together, its like an advanced movie maker

Vegas has a "show me how" that shows you where to click step by step. But Vegas isn't very popular, it's just what i've always used. Also as said, YT is pretty much perfect for various how tos.
