Recommended paint for black PLA?

I've not yet needed to paint any of my simple prints (mainly small boxes) but probably will soon. I see a daunting range of brands and types from UK sources. Any recommendations please? And is it always necessary to use a primer first?

I'm using Vallejo acrylics. Both the normal one and the air with my airbrush.
Goes on nice, dries fast and doesn't smell

I always use a primer. Used a generic cheap spray primer at first which worked ok but now use Vallejo's own with my airbrush.

I second acrylics, I've recently painted a 3D print with Artiste silver acrylic I picked up from Amazon, and it goes on pretty nicely.
