Removing Lightroom Develop Presets

Hi guys, i had a question about the develop presets in Lightroom. Basically if i have a preset that has been applied to a photo, what happens if the preset gets deleted from its folder, does the photo remain the same, or are the changes lost if the preset is removed from the computer?

Just in the process of backing up Lightroom to upgrade the PC to Windows 10 and wondered what happens if i restored a catalogue but miss some of the presets that were used on photos in that catalogue.

Image stays the same, the preset is basically a list of changes to make (i.e. like a Marco in Excel), the changes have been made to the image and will remain in the XMP file. If you still require that preset even though it's been deleted you can use that image to save its changes to a preset file so you can then apply to other images.
