Nice guide Rotty.

My 2 cents from personal experience...

The Mirage was having quite a lot of work done in the casino area when I was there in October, and as such was quite noisy/dusty. Just didn't exude the class of some of the others, having said that, the fish tank behind reception is awesome and the dolphin and wildlife habitats were very good...kept the missus happy for almost an entire day :D

The Excalibur is a fun, very reasonably priced place. Service was very good (we had a toilet blockage and 30 seconds after putting the phone down to report it we had a plumber, 2 room-maids changing towels/bath mats etc and a manager there asking if we wanted to swap to another room!) Casino was good with friendly free poker lessons etc.

I stayed in the Luxor about 4 years ago, so opinions may be a bit out of date on the rooms, but I stayed in a pyramid room and it was very well appointed. Had a good wander around there in October for old times sake, and it still looked very impressive in the public areas.

How about starting a new guide on places to go/show opinions etc?

If so...

Rat Pack Tribute at Greek Isles Hotel
Tiny hotel but puts on a fantastic show. Audience is packed in fairly tightly and maitre 'd not the friendliest, but it all kept in the spirit of the whole show I guess. Best thing me and the missus did with possible exception of...

Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour
Did this with Papillon...was very disappointed that they cancelled our scheduled evening trip which would have meant a nice sunset fly back down the strip. Had to re-arrange our plans to accomodate them so a thumbs down for that. having said that, the trip we did was superb, good commentary, friendly pilot etc. Canyon is always awe inspiring, even if it's not the "true" canyon.

Evening City tour
This was actually quite good fun, and if you haven't got your own hire car, is a good way to see lots of the city at night in complete safety. You get to all the various shows bang on time for the start (these are in-hotel cabaret type things). We used vegas.com to book etc.

Feel free to edit/add your own

Rotty, if I've hi-jacked this, just let me know and I'll edit/post to a new message as appropriate.

no probs , glad to see your comments of the Rat Pack show as we my go and see it this year m was just out off by the venue

Shows / Attractions

Mystere , fantastic fun and a truly great show , a great first Cirque show to go and see

Ka , incredible effects like watching a blockbuster movie for 20 feet away , a little pricey but a great experince

Big Elvis - free show in the afternoons at the Barbary Coast - superb performance by a 50 stone Elvis - very informal and good fun

Strip helicopter trip , worth doing but not as dramatic as I imagined

Canyon - we did the South rim by light aircraft and coach with Scenic air , long day but an absolute must

Fremont Street Experience - good for a night out , light show is fun but nothing amazing but atmosphere is great

Sirens of TI - crowded and no where near as good as the old show , still has to be seen though

Mirage Volcano - is that it ? hardly worth bothering about

St Marks/canals in Venetian - great way to spend a leisurely afternoon

Gameworks near MGM - time for me to be a big kid again , beat all the yound uns on the Indy car race thingy :D

Lion's at MGM - err it's Lions at the MGM

King tut's tomb exhibit at Luxor - what a pile of ***** -naff plastic copies of artifacts and you have to pay too

Bellagio fountains - a must see ( several times ) , we had a private performance of them on our wedding day :)

A few bars/clubs

Mist (TI), was good but now full of spoilt american rich kids

Tangerine(TI) - great club with a terrace overlooking the strip

Baccarat bar ( Bellagio ) - superb classy surroundings

Fontana bar ( Bellagio ) - bar is ok with live music but they also have a small terrace on the edge of the lake , superb if you can get a table in the evening

Parasol Down ( Wynn ) - no better way to spend an afternoon , a small terrace at the side of a quiet enclosed lake with the sun beating down , wonderful

I stayed in the MGM grand in January. It is indeed huge, walking from my room to the conference (in the same building) took around 10 minutes!!

Didn't see any shows (does Mud Wrestling count?).

The Venetian was nice, it's like daytime there - has a sky and everything. Was very strange eating dinner there and your body saying 'hang on a sec isn't it 4am??').

I didn't get to go in many other hotels. New York New York, The stratosphere and Paris. I was there for a conference so my days were all taken up. Nights were spent drinking.

I did a helicopter trip to the west tip of the canyons. Total fly time of around two hours including down the strip on the way back.

Very enjoyable, looking to go back maybe later this year for a tourist holiday.

PS - the MGM grand has tigers!!

So they're three times bigger. Big deal. :D :D

They're also supposedly more docile, although the lion was pretty docile too (it just sat there and looked at me, then decided to go to sleep). :D

Top thread Rotty ! :)

I stayed at TI when I was there in October last year and I found it pretty good. The Tangerine Club was superb I thought although a bit overpriced.

I later found out that you were staying in The Bellagio at the same time. I could have popped along for brandy and cigars. ;)

I agree with your comments on The Bellagio though. I had a walk through the main hotels and it is a cut above the rest.
