    Guys

ive got a 500gb hot swap SATA 2 3gb/s hard drive but i dont have a SATA controller card yet.

Can i get a SATA 2 controller card for a pci motherboard? or do i need a pci express board to get one of these?

From reading the other posts i have gleened that the drive will be Sata compatible and my psu has sata power connectors

Yes you can get PCI versions as far as I can tell, this Promise card appears to be an example of what you want. I've seen it advertised for less than £30 but you may find it simpler to just go for an ordinary SATA controller card, it will be cheaper and you don't gain that much by going for SATA II.
