This is quite interesting I had always thought that finds like this were counted as treasure and immediately belonged to the royal family, so whoever found it wouldn't see a cent. But this quote suggests otherwise http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/8272058.stm
'It has been declared treasure by South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh, meaning it belongs to the Crown. ' so I think South Staffordshire Coroner > BBC correspondent.
I think the way I understand it is that the Queen now "owns" it but will buy it off of the land owner and the guy who found it
lolling Apparently it's a pretty good find as it's all war loot and spoils. None of this fancy jewelry rubbish.
Lol - that was my first thought too. Apparently it's worth quite a bit, according to Sky news the finder and the landowner get 50% each which isn't too bad.
Found a nice Flickr photo gallery of some of the items in this hoard. Some amazing work - makes you wonder what the things looked like intact. http://www.flickr.com/photos/finds/sets/72157622378376316/with/3944490322/
no the crown now owns it (i.e. the state) - though the guy who found it and the landowner get some cash
