I'm taking a look at a friends laptop for her, and I believe the hard drive is failing or about to. its detected in the bios, but apprently no operating system can be detected. I thought it might be the boot record so i used the windows recovery option and tried fixboot, fixmbr, but it couldn't access the drive. I then used my Unbuntu live cd, which came up with a host of IO errors.

The drive is a seagate st94011a. I have looked on the seagate site but cannot find dioagnostic software to test the drive
