Sell my 1700 and get a 2700 or wait for Ryzen 4000

hey folks so Basically there is going to be a big sale on a certain site in a few days and im predicting the 2700 will fall to about the 150 mark i currently have a 1700 running on the stock cooler but i am upgrading to a 2070 Super next month i game at 2560x1080 144hz.

Im going to be also getting a Deepcool Castle 360mm AIO and have some Thermal grizzly lying around so should be able to overclock my current chip to 3.9 or a 2700 to 4.2 from what ive seen it will be about a 15fps increase between the chips im not sure what a second hand 1700 goes for but im assuming about 125 so would only be a 25 pound upgrade any help is greatly appreciated?

£100 or less for the 1700 cant see the 2700 being £150 as they are 8 core. they may do at odd place to get rid for new ryzen platform.gaming wise you would probably be better getting the 3600 if board supports it. will be quicker than the 2700.

Im spending pretty much all my saving's on the Gpu plus 3600 is more of a side grade as it has less cores and threads forgot to mention im going to start streaming as well?

just keep the 1700 save your money. should be good enough anyway. 3600 would be better for gaming but streaming i wouldnt pick it for that. i wouldnt swap from a 1700 to a 2700 non x either.

the 2700 is just a slightly improved 1700, unless you need to change then stick with it or least till you can afford a 3700/3900 cpu

Good decision. At 3.8GHz it should be plenty fast for the 580. Problem with the 1700 is its very low clocks. If you can hit 3.9-4.0 - even better but the vcore needed might not be worth it.

Check this 1700 with a 1080Ti in Overwatch. The RAM, though, is set at 3466MHz CL14 i think.

I am in the same position as you, no real reason to upgrade. But I keep looking on the S/H market within the forum to pick up a cheap CPU 2700. Missed a good deal from a forum member that sold 2700 at a very special price.

2700 is about £163 new which I think is a decent price for what you get however the problem is either:

1) People already own a Ryzen chip, in which case unless it is worse than 1600 or they get a good sale price, it's not that big an upgrade
2) People don't already own Ryzen, in which case they need to buy a new mobo anyway and may as well go for something a bit more modern (although, the 3700x is frustratingly expensive).

I found the upgrade from a 1700 to a 2700x worth it. My 1700 was a poor clocker so the ability to run the 2700x at stock and get 4Ghz was gold dust.

I know going from an 8 core to a 6 core sounds wrong but the op could also look at the 3600 and 3600x as they are excellent gaming chips. And I bet are actually better at gaming tasks than the 2700x.

With the next gen consoles tho possibly being 8 cores your mileage may vary. So it's your call.
