Wasnt sure where to put this so please move if needed.

I need to buy a new server cabinet for our IT room (19"), however although we have one already it was not one I ordered or setup.

So I would like some advice from those who have done this before and know what I should be looking for.

what I know so far: size 19" 42u

I will need a UPS (but how do I know what size?)

USB KVM Switch

what else can you think of?

We have a couple of servers that are towers and not rack mounted, but ideally I would like them in the cabinet even if just laid on a shelf.

Is there any specific brand that is better than others?

I'm back baby!
Wires for the KVM
Do the racking servers you have come with the rails you require?
Power
To work out the UPS required you'll have to know what you're putting in the cabinet. Then you can estimate the load.

On the pale blue dot
Channels for cables?
Plug points and with what time of adaptors (e.g. small UPS ports or huge movie style underfloor points)?
Fans on the top to blow air out?
Rails I would have thought you'd get with your servers, or need to get hold of separately.
A door? Do you have limited space to open it?
Remote monitoring of temperature/power/UPS?

Non-rack servers can still sit in a rack as you can get shelves you can just screw in, just watch the weight.
