That's refreshing to hear. We have a Cockapoo and would like a companion for her, not to breed but to have two dogs! I just cannot justify the price of them right now, but like you said, so many dogs are going to be rehomed soon with normality resuming, its horrible so we may look down that route. If you struggle to shift any when they eventually come, (you won't) give me a shout! :D

I'll bear that in mind, right now I'm just hoping all goes well with the welping as nothing is guaranteed in that department!

Picking this little Whippet up on Monday, it'll be my third time raising a puppy although first Whippet. Looking forward to it although I'm sure there will be some sleepless nights!

Good luck mate! We’re getting there with the early starts (half 7 today!) but it’s worth it for the joy they bring.

He class :)

Just spotted your msg in the other thread. This website was pointed out to me by Azza https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk. It's important to look at the cost per meal than the over all cost of the bag of food. Had my eyes opened

Thank you! Just going through the minefield of food at the moment. The breeder is currently feeding him with this so we've bought a 15 kg bag for now.

Twenty five quid?? For fifteen kilos?? They're having a laugh. My vet, who is also a good friend, has always said the practice never ceases to be amazed at what they can get away with charging for "specialist" dog foods. The margin on them is eye opening. I have eighteen dogs here at the moment, so buy food in bulk, the cost per week for the eight older adult dogs is under £20, most weigh over 50 kgs.

I know it's not cheap, but it's what he's currently fed on and I didn't want to suddenly switch his diet. I'm going to do some research (as well as insurance) and once I've decided slowly bring it in to his diet by mixing it.

We're in a similar situation, we got our cockapoo for £650 just over 2 years ago, anything similar is now between £1.5-2.5k and I can't justify it.

Noticed a tonne of rehoming posts on the socials over the past few months. They are written like they just want the dog to have a good home and will be giving them away for free or at a reduced cost. When you enquire, they want their £2.5k back they paid and won't accept a penny less! Just put that in the post then instead of pretending it's not just a sale!

You are probably feeding your dogs crap food at that price.

Chicken and tripe are great. The Dr johns is pretty bad.

I've read this elsewhere, and I understand why, but my lab (posted earlier in the thread) died at 17 this year and he had Dr Johns silver throughout and he was still doing things like Snowdon at 13.

I'm strugging to find a smaller bite food for our other dog who is less bothered for it now he's on his own. Dog food just seems to be ridiculously priced.

Well that is like those anecdotes of 40 a day smokers living until 100 isn't it?

Everyone ridiculed the price of that food linked above but look at the ingredients.

Salmon, Haddock & Blue Whiting 60% (Freshly Prepared Salmon
21%, Dried Salmon 16%, Freshly Prepared Blue Whiting 11%, Freshly
Prepared Haddock 10% & Salmon Stock 2%), Sweet Potato (20%),
Potato, Beet Pulp, Peas (6%), Linseed, Omega 3 Supplement, Minerals,
Vitamins, Vegetable Stock, Asparagus (0.2%), Glucosamine (170 mg/
kg), Methylsulfonylmethane (170 mg/kg), Chondroitin Sulphate (125
mg/kg), Nucleotides, FOS (96 mg/kg), MOS (24 mg/kg)

Compare that to Dr Johns gold.

Cereals, meat and animal derivatives (minimum 14% chicken), oils and fats, yeasts, milk and milk derivatives, oils and fats, minerals.

It really isn't hard to see why one is dirt cheap and the other is not.
