I do like the C30, but I just find the rear end is awkward. May as well go for the S40/V50 if you need any space ever.

The rear end is an acquired taste at best. I go from meh to adore it for its distinctive styling. It's certainly different. Boot size don't bother me, yet. It fits everything i need in there so far, just about.

It would be deeper though if it were't for the spare wheel.

Tell me more about it, I'm thinking of getting one to replace my Z4, I'd be upset going from the sound of a luscious straight six to a dishwasher sounding 4Cyl, and I think the 5Cyl engines sound great.

Had many issues with it? How much is it costing you to Maintain/Run etc

Cheers.

Weirdly I plan to go the other way when I upgrade! (to the post 2009 Z4)

I've had it a year and 2 months, put about 11k miles on it and the only thing I replaced are brake disc and pads (they were original). So it has been very reliable.

Starts every time, all the buttons work. There used to be a weird noise from the console at certain speed on certain road surfaces but that's gone now. The only thing of note are

1 - The boot is quite high to get to and not very tall. I could fit 2 x hand carry on luggage in there side by side with a bag in between. If you can, find a car with the hard parcel shelf instead of a clothing line cover. Although replacement original can be purchased from Volvo separately but it is £300. Which I had to do as I didn't like the clothing line.

2 - The engine isn't that loud, or at least in the cabin, it is very quiet. Even my dad who came from the Audi A6 commented how quiet it is in my car. Long journeys in this goes by really fast, because the seats are comfortable, quiet cabin and I have cruise and auto gear box and with the bigger engine it is effortless driving really. At 70mph the engine is at 2k rpm.

3 - The wing mirror causes wind noise at 70mph+ Can't notice it below that speed

I would definitely get the R-Design, it comes with the better seats and nicer looking body kit. Rubber floor mats from Volvo are "cheap" I paid about £50. A godsend in the winter. It can be awkward getting into the back if you are tall, and its a 4 seater car, not 5. The people at the back as the same seats as the front.

Cost to run wise, I mainly go to Shell for V-Power, the tank isn't that big and I think it is around 50 to 55L so normally around £60 to fill up when the light comes on.

Service I take it to my local Volvo Specialist, but Volvo serving is the same price almost to the nearest tenner. I went with the indy because the dealer is 40miles away. Last service was £300 or so. VED is £300 ish a year. Insurance for me isn't that bad, I pay about £400.

Yeah, apart from the £50/60 fill up every 3 weeks or so at the moment, there has been no bills. I had tracking/balance and alignment done on the wheels at the start and they are wearing perfectly even. When I took it for the service the Specialist people were impressed with the C30 because they don't see many of them, especially a T5. Volvo don't make 5Cyl engines anymore either.

Cheers for that fella, I'd plan to get an R-Design, an exhaust will probably fix the quietness think people tend to use Milltek and there's a clip on YT that makes it come alive.

Coming from a Z4, space in the back would have little concern to me since I currently only have 2 seats :D

My gripe with the E85 Z4 is the poor interior quality, in which I mean rattles and stuff, what's the interior like on the C30? Well put together?

Interior wise, there are a mix of metal, leather and plastic.

The inner door handle is aluminium. The door handle and arm rest on the door is a mix of metal and leather, the opening for the middle section between the 2 seats is leather but the lower door is plastic, the glove is plastic (there is a rubber mat inside the glove compartment to dampen any rattling), the tray behind the centre console also has a rubber bottom. The stitching is good on the R-Design seats. The sliding opening for the cup holders is plastic, and kinda creaks at the friction of opening it. The lower half of the section between the seats as plastic-tastic. In short, most bits above the gear stick is nicer to touch. Oh, the passenger vanity mirror has a light, sign of quality :p

Everyone who has been inside comment positively about it without me even asking.

I would say the interior is decent, I prefer it over my sister's 1 series.

In terms of toys, mine lacks the entertainment side, it has the basic sound system, it doesn't have NAV (the Volvo one sucks anyway), but it has most of the driver's aids like follow me home headlights, heated seats, auto dimming mirror, auto folding wing mirror, cruise, electric memory driver's seat (not passenger for some reason). All I did is add a bluetooth dongle for £10 into the AUX compartment between the seats (it has two 12v lighter, one is behind the arm rest), and connects my phone which is my media player. That solves my lack of Nav and media problem. Sound quality isn't too bad from the basic audio due to the quiet cabin, for what it is.

The cabin is over a decade old technically, being pretty much the same interior as the 2006 model. In a way, I prefer the entire retro look of the monochrome screen than a 1st gen crap LCD. This way I will always have a nice screen as I have a newish phone in it. With Bluetooth in I can even voice control the entire thing too.
