It's absolutely not a great car. It is not built better than anything. The ONLY thing going for it is that it's reliable.

The interior plastics are utterly horrible, it screams cheap as possible from every direction. The equipment levels are absolutely dire. It doesn't handle, at all. You get comical bodyroll even negotiating a roundabout. The 1.3 litre engine is gruff, unfined, and absolutely gutless.

Seriously, the only good thing about is its reliability. I had the misfortune of driving one of these for 6 months.

TBH do you expect high quality trim, and all *** above for such a low price bracket, most cars for that price are going to be knackered Mondeos, driven to hell and back by chain smoking sales reps, ford escorts owned by boyracers with a penchant for pulling donuts and hand brake turning. I looked at this price bracket and those were the other types of cars availible.

However I wouldn't go sticking alloys or anything on it, just try and get a nice condition one with the colour coded bumpers.

I hated it so much - remember this is car which cost me nothing, I had totally free use of it and only needed to pay for petrol - that I went out and bought my own car to drive instead - a 143,000 mile ex-fleet Xantia diesel.

It was a better car in every possible way.

If you get the Mk 2 216 with the 1.6 Honda engine then it's a great car

Nippy, revvy engine. Handle pretty well too - I wouldn't say that they fall to bits either. My Mum used to own one years ago.

The only thing really is the old man image but that wouldn't bother me. At that price, there's not much better!

A huge invincible Volvo.

Old volvo's are the way to go for really cheap cars. They're comfy, have plenty of toys that still work, rwd, have reasonable amounts of power and are cheap to insure.
