slow transfer over wireless between vista and XP

Ive been trying to transfer files between my girlfriends laptop and mine over the wireless connection in our house.
When i try to transfer files the speed is about 20-30 KB/s.
Ive looked on the net and there seems to be plenty of ideas which havent worked.
I have read one explanation that simply vista does not allow for fast transfer speeds no matter what tampering takes place.

It is fine when dowloading from the net,just when i transfer files over the workgroup.

any suggestions

You may have already tried this but have you tested with Remote Differential Compression disabled on the Vista box?

The only other thing I can think of is the Vista driver up-to-date? If it is have you tried searching for the "[wireless device name] slow transfers" on Google? Always a good idea too.

Those are the two most common issues for slow transfer rates I can think of.

Do all Windows updates on both machines, get the latest network drivers for both machines.

Vista had terrible pc to pc problems for some configs.

XP is SP3
Vista is SP2
