So i need a new HDD. i am currently running 2x120gig on IDE but the master is on the way out. My mobo supports SATA 2 but I have never used or set one up.

Just buying another IDE would obviously be the simple solution but I notice that for example the 320 gig seagate sata 2 is about the same price as the IDE version.....taking into account I would have to re-cable and install sata drivers for this against doing nothing for IDE is there any advantage at all for me moving my master drive over to SATA 2?

Hunting around forums I get the impression with my setup there would be no real speed advantage at all?

Depends how blind you are, personally i've always noticed a difference over sata and ide, and of course sata uses smaller cables, easier to work with and better airflow.

Sata is better, if it was'nt it would be totally pointless.

SATA is a better more advanced drive. Apart from the data cable they use a different power connecter too. Make sure your PSU can support this. If it can I say go for it.
