I wouldn't go for either. Wait for Conroe to come out and then weigh up the options :)

I've been waiting to purchase my pc for a few months now and was ready to order until I read all of the Conroe hype.

Is this a decent system to purchase just now? Budget cannot exceed £800.

CPU AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2) £88.07
Motherboard Asus M2NPV-VM DDR2 PCI-e £70.44
Memory GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 £109.95
Graphics Card Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB £164.44
Hard Drive Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB £52.29
DVD Drive NEC ND4570 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter £21.95
Keyboard and Mouse Logitech UltraX™ Media Desktop £35.19
Speakers JBL Creature II 2.1 Speakers £55.17
Case and PSU Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case £66.92
Monitor Acer AL1916WS 19" Widescreen £186.82

Total £796.07

That looks a decent system. I would just buy AM2 as there is never a right time to buy a system as there is always something new coming out.
There will be new AM2 65nm chips coming out at the start of 2007 which should be fast.

I don't think you would be able to get a conroe into a £800 budget with monitor, speakers and gaming graphics card anyway.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Will I be able to fit the AM2 65nm chips into the Asus M2NPV-VM mobo though or would this be another mobo upgrade at the time?

I can't seem to see any feedback for this mobo, has anyone else used it yet?

Ok, thanks. I'm feeling pretty certain that I'm making the best choice for the moment.

One quick final question, can someone recommend me a budget AM2 mobo that is compatible with the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2?
