Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help me. I bought a Weller Solder Iron 20W about 12 years ago in a clearence sale, but never used it much as I never had the time or knowledge. Now I am learning about old consoles and stuff and repairing, I want to get into soldering.

The problem is my solder iron has a chisel tip on and not a thin pencil tip on it. What I was wondering was are tips universal as in if I buy tips for say a Anex (spelling) solder iron, if they are the same size can I used them in my weller or are soldering irons use there own style tips, as the solder iron is good, just not thin enough on the tip to do stuff on circuit boards and had to solder wires together.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you are going to be doing lots of soldering then get a decent iron as it will make work a lot easier. Get an Ersa solder station, it has a host of different tips and full temperature control, they cost a bit over £100 but you can solder anything with those as they have some very fine tips.
