Hi,

Recently, I am planning to upgrade my monitors to 4k to play 4k content. Obviously, I will need a 4k display with an HDCP 2.2 in order to be able to display 4k features. Now, I was reading somewhere that if it is a TV configuration, I might need an HDCP 2.2 certified sound bar. How about PC? Do I need an HDCP 2.2 certified sound card?

Many thanks.

No, because HDCP is there to protect where high definition output is concerned. Sound cards in general do not have any HD output connections.

The only time a sound card required HDCP was when the Asus Xonar HDAV was available, which had HDMI output for connection to an AV receiver to make use of the HD audio formats with home theatre speaker systems. This was at a time when GPUs did not support the required HDCP. GPUs have long since supported this, so there's no need for a sound card with HDMI to exist anymore.
