My mum recently had some bad news and subsequently we're spending a lot of time in hospitals. I want to treat her to a new laptop, normally I'd enjoy researching to catch up on the tech, but life has become more than a little hectic.
I would be really grateful if anyone could suggest any laptops that are reasonably close to my requirements... but I'm quite flexible. I'm a little out of touch with laptop tech but here we go...

I would be really grateful if anyone could suggest any laptops that are reasonably close to my requirements... but I'm quite flexible. I'm a little out of touch with laptop tech but here we go...
- Budget ideally less that £500, sub £400 would be preferable, but the cheaper the better for me as I'm on unpaid leave to care for her.
- The lighter and slimmer the better, screen size around 13-15"
- Decent build quality as it's going to be getting lugged about a lot, and no doubt my little nephew will get his perpetually chocolate covered hands on it at some point.
- Good battery life, maybe 6 hr+ so she can watch a movie and do some browsing.
- Performance capable of 4k playback (for connecting to TV), and something capable of remaining snappy when browsing Facebook whilst also supporting her love of creating unnecessarily large numbers of tabs for no apparent reason.
- High resolution not a major factor, her eyesight is pretty bad, decent viewing angles would be nice tho so I can watch Downton Abbey too
. - SSD (minimal storage requirements).
- Webcam
- Windows OS
