Need to build/buy a good system mainly for video editing and 3d rendering. Budget is £1000-£1100, I need everything except the screen and would probably prefer the X2 4400+ processor.

    Cheers for any help!

How about this as a basis, I've picked the Opteron 170 over the X2 4400 because it has 2mb L2 cache and will probably overclock better. The rest of the parts are all good solid components, the motherboard is possibly the most contentious of them but some people have found them to be great although maybe not the best for overclocking.

How does this look? X2 processor you specced, 2gig Ram, decent sized 16meg cache HDD, top end graphics card (which admitadly I'm not sure how decent you need for your rendering but it fits in budget... just... so makes sense to me :) ).

As for the mobo, as semi said it is one with percieved problems but I love mine so don't hesitate to reccomend it. Also OCUK use it in their top end mega overclocked rig too.
