If it was you guys, for Gaming and Slight OverClocking which route would you go?

Conroe
X2
Single Core

Hopefully capable to run Vista aswell when it comes out?

TIA

Mate go for dual core as it's slowly going to become the norm and I'd personally want it sooner rather than later. Call it "future proof" if you want. :)

You'll also want a cpu cooler in the above spec as the stock one is noisy. Have a look at the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR) as it's pretty cheap and good enough for most people.

Certainly will. Cooler won't be a problem. RAM is also fine for overclocking. Mobo should be good enough for you and should let you achieve 2.4GHz+

The thing is, the motherboards are quite expensive for Conroe - that will allow a fair amount of overclocking.. On my budget, to include a decent gfx card and a monitor its getting tight... im thinking:

Hyundai ImageQuest B71A 17" LCD Monitor - Black (MO-033-HY)
Price: £119.95 (£140.94 Including VAT at 17.5%)

or

BenQ FP71G+ 17" LCD Monitor (MO-015-BQ)
Price: £104.95 (£123.32 Including VAT at 17.5%)

and an X1800 XT

ideas?

I'd probably go for the Hyundai to be honest

As for the X1800XT, go for it. It's certainly better than the 7600GT.

Let me try another spec...

If you overclock that E6300 to 2.4GHz, it will perform roughly the same as an FX62, and there's no reason why you can't achieve 2.4GHz++ with the above spec. As for the monitor, I'm not sure how it compares to the ones you mentioned above, but it's the same price as the Hyundai and has better specs on paper (but as a general rule, try to spend the most you can on a monitor as it's the one thing you look at most when you're on the PC). Bit over budget though so...eek...
