Starforce etc for retro systems

Just wondered really, I tend to purchase games from GOG so I realise the original DRM has been removed, only I do like to buy original CD/DVD's for some games. Will installing a Starforce or DRM equivalent on an offline XP system cause an issue? Back in the day it never caused me an issue but I suppose there were horror stories!

I know there are cracks but I guess, just wondered when installing on a retro PC. Thanks in advance.

StarForce was fine for me on an XP install but played up on Windows 7.

Games for Windows Live worked OK for Halo 2 on vista and Windows 7 but I remove it wherever possible.

EA games from that crappy period when they had limited activations don't work on any platform as the activation severs are off. Possibly except Crysis warhead.

This is from quite limited experience though...
