If you can i suggest a quick look at the stars tonight.

They seem alot closer and theres a distinct line of three of them equally spaced (look towards cornwall) that dont look like stars at all.

And one to the left of that thats particulary brighter and flashing all different colours.

    Spooky!!!

Orions belt? They will often seem to flicker depending on atmospheric conditions.

I actually noticed this when i was out earlier. Its fairly usual to see a bright flashing star (which is a nearby planet i think?) but there were 2 visible tonight.

If you are looking SW then it's most probably Orion:

The past few months have been awesome for star gazing, I'm not sure why but we've had really clear skies most nights :)

That bright one that orion belt points too if you follow the line down to the left should be sirius, brightest star in the sky I think.

    Find what you are seeing!

Fantastic program and invaluable to us astronomer types!

What you probably saw was sirius as far as the flashing one goes. It twinkles because it has a lot more atmosphere to show through.
Stars twinkle, planets do not. Inidently. Mars is up there looking as beautiful as ever!
