I have two routers on different subnets and am trying to configure file sharing over them. I know many people will say just put them on the same subnet but that isn't an option as want to have certain internet scheduling for the kids allowed on router 2 subnet.

Router 1 connects to the internet, has a gateway ip address of 192.168.1.1 and gives out dhcp range of 192.168.1.2-254.
Router 2 wan port connects to lan of Router 1 and is set to have a static wan ip of 192.168.1.2. Its gateway ip is 192.168.2.1 and dhcp range is then 192.168.2.2-254.

As you can expect computers connected to router 2 can see those on router 1 but not vice versa. I have configured port forwarding of 135-139 and 445 which are suppose to be the Microsoft file sharing ports. I have also configured a static route on router 1 to direct traffic to router 2:

Metric: 1
Destination Lan Net: 192.168.2.0
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.2
Interface: Any (have tried setting to Lan & Wlan as well)

Can anyone tell me what I am missing here. I have read that I cant type computer names and have to type ip addresses but that still doesnt work. Do any static routes need to be set of router 2?
